My apologies, but we are not having a CopyNight meeting in Raleigh this month due to unavoidable scheduling conflicts on my part. I have every intent of February's meeting happening on the fourth Tuesday of February.
If you did not see this on the main CopyNight email, please read the following:

~ Broadcast Flag... Rises from Dead... Again!
Remember the broadcast flag? That Follywood-manufactured*
scheme that would give content companies veto power over the
features of devices that receive digital TV? The one we've
defeated over and over? Well, it's back again, and this
time it's Senatorial. Sen. Gordon Smith (R-OR) has been
circulating a new version of the plan that expands content
company control over digital radio devices. CopyNight
Portland, please knock some sense into him! Complete
background on the latest broadcast flag can be found here:

Also, I found out after the fact that a Professor Koleman Strumpf of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill spoke at Duke University today on "The Effect of File Sharing on the Sale of Entertainment Products: The Case of Recorded Music and Movies".
Did anyone hear about this prior to the talk today, and go, and if so, how was it? (If I find a writeup of the talk, I'll send a link to the list).
thanks, best, see you in February,
Steve B
