CopyNight Tonight!

CopyNight is tonight at 7:30 at the Green Dragon (928 SE 9th Ave 503-517-0606). If it's not raining out (or too cold), let's try outside in the new beer garden. I don't know if they have those outside heaters, if not we may need to stick to the indoors.
I'll bring some stuff for us to talk about and I'll be giving away a book for review and sharing the info about getting O'Reilly discounts.
Hope to see you there! If you have discussion topics, all the better! I didn't arrange a "speaker" this month but it would be great if anyone had any news or topics they wanted to discuss.

September CopyNight

Hi all,
I just realized that I announced that our next copynight would be Sept 23rd, which is a Tuesday. Oops. We'll actually be meeting on the 24th, a Wednesday.

Next CopyNight September 23rd

The consensus at the last CopyNight was that we should skip August as many (all?) of us were planning to be out of town on vacation. We'll meet again in September.
If you have any books you'd like me to order from O'Reilly between now and then, do let me know!

Update on some good stuff I'm planning including coordinating a showing of the excellent film "Freedom of Expression"

CopyNight on Wednesday (finally!)

This Wednesday (the 23rd) we'll have CopyNight at the Green Dragon in SE Portland (928 SE 9th Ave
(503) 517-0606 - near the Q Hut). There we can enjoy fine beer, lovely spirits from the Integrity distillery, good food, and some great copyright conversation. I have some info I brought back from the UMUC Symposium.
We will kick off the evening with a discussion of orphan works and the status of orphan works legislation.
I really looking forward to seeing everyone after missing the last couple of months. We will meet on the restaurant side of the Green Dragon, I'm pretty sure I've got them convinced to save the big table for us.
Again, I love to know if you're coming ahead of time so I can have a rough idea of how many tables to save but it's not at all required!

Next CopyNight July 23rd

I'm going to go ahead and cancel tonight's CopyNight, again, sorry! Next CopyNight will be July 23rd. I will give a report from the UMUC IP symposium and i'll bring the big binder of goodies I got there. We'll also talk about orphan works, which is definitely a hot topic right now.

Hi all,
Here's the thing - I won't be able to make it to CopyNight this month (I definitely can NEXT month). Is anyone planning on coming? If so, is anyone willing to "host" -- basically just show up a little early and greet people and stuff?

I'm going to cancel CopyNight this month because I will be out of town and no one volunteered to "host" in my place. I'm going to be at the UMUC copyright symposium so I'll report on it next time we meet!!

CopyNight Tonight

I heard from a couple of people that they hadn't gotten the message I sent earlier in the week - here it is again, just in case:
I really thought we were lucky with the Maiden as a spot to meet, sadly our luck did not hold out. The Maiden is under new management and while the new menu looks really nice, I think its gone a bit upscale for our group. Somehow �duck confit� and �copynight� don�t really go hand-in-hand, in my mind.
So. I think we should try something a little different this month and meet at the Green Dragon on SE 9th. There is a �bistro� side with table service and, well, tables but there is also a bar side that has some sit down tables and some high top tables with and without chairs. I�m wondering if it would be kind of cool to congregate around some of those high tables � it�s a sort of set up so that it�s easy to move around and socialize. So, I propose we meet at the Green Dragon on the bar side at 7:30. They do have food - really pretty good food - and you can order at the bar. They have an awesome selection of obscure beers and I think they have wine, they definitely have cocktails.

If it doesn�t work, or people dislike it, we can pick a new place. Basically, I just discovered how much the Maiden had changed today and I don�t have time to call all over and I really like the beer at the Green Dragon.
It�s on 9th, off of Belmont near the Q Hut.
Candy volunteered to start us off with a good conversation about IP rights vs. human rights! Should be a really good one!
