I'll bring some stuff for us to talk about and I'll be giving away a book for review and sharing the info about getting O'Reilly discounts.
Hope to see you there! If you have discussion topics, all the better! I didn't arrange a "speaker" this month but it would be great if anyone had any news or topics they wanted to discuss.
We will kick off the evening with a discussion of orphan works and the status of orphan works legislation.
I really looking forward to seeing everyone after missing the last couple of months. We will meet on the restaurant side of the Green Dragon, I'm pretty sure I've got them convinced to save the big table for us.
Again, I love to know if you're coming ahead of time so I can have a rough idea of how many tables to save but it's not at all required!
I really thought we were lucky with the Maiden as a spot to meet, sadly our luck did not hold out. The Maiden is under new management and while the new menu looks really nice, I think its gone a bit upscale for our group. Somehow “duck confit” and “copynight” don’t really go hand-in-hand, in my mind.
So. I think we should try something a little different this month and meet at the Green Dragon on SE 9th. There is a “bistro” side with table service and, well, tables but there is also a bar side that has some sit down tables and some high top tables with and without chairs. I’m wondering if it would be kind of cool to congregate around some of those high tables — it’s a sort of set up so that it’s easy to move around and socialize. So, I propose we meet at the Green Dragon on the bar side at 7:30. They do have food - really pretty good food - and you can order at the bar. They have an awesome selection of obscure beers and I think they have wine, they definitely have cocktails.
The place is basically a garage so don’t expect a ton of ambiance but it could be fun!!!
If it doesn’t work, or people dislike it, we can pick a new place. Basically, I just discovered how much the Maiden had changed today and I don’t have time to call all over and I really like the beer at the Green Dragon.
It’s on 9th, off of Belmont near the Q Hut.
Candy volunteered to start us off with a good conversation about IP rights vs. human rights! Should be a really good one!
