Remember the broadcast flag?  That Follywood-manufactured*                      &lt;BR&gt;
scheme that would give content companies veto power over the                    &lt;BR&gt;
features of devices that receive digital TV?  The one we've                     &lt;BR&gt;
defeated over and over?  Well, it's back again, and this                        &lt;BR&gt;
time it's Senatorial.  Sen. Gordon Smith (R-OR) has been                        &lt;BR&gt;
circulating a new version of the plan that expands content                      &lt;BR&gt;
company control over digital radio devices.  CopyNight                          &lt;BR&gt;

Also, I found out after the fact that a Professor Koleman Strumpf of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill spoke at Duke University today on &amp;quot;The Effect of File Sharing on the Sale of Entertainment Products: The Case of Recorded Music and Movies&amp;quot;. &lt;BR&gt;
Did anyone hear about this prior to the talk today, and go, and if so, how was it? (If I find a writeup of the talk, I'll send a link to the list). &lt;BR&gt;

The News and Observer is sponsoring Freedom Sings: A Celebration of the First Amendment through words and music,  which will take place on  Tuesday,  October 25 at the Meymandi Concert Hall at The Progress Energy Center of the Performing Arts.  The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at is free to the public. You do not need a ticket for the show.  Seats at first-come, first-serve.     &lt;BR&gt;
Freedom Sings is a critically acclaimed multi-media experience featuring an all-star cast of musicians.  The presentation tells the story of almost three centuries of banned or censored music in America and invites audiences  to take a fresh look at the First Amendment.  This entertaining, irreverent, and inspiring program is packed with live music, video and graphics and appeals to people from all political perspectives.&lt;BR&gt;
