Dear CopyNighters,
Yes its that time of month again -- for heated copyright debate over fresh beer! We'll be meeting up tonight at Swift's at 8pm to talk about copyright, and whatever else you feel like discussing with the group of like minded individuals that makes up CopyNight. Swift's is located on E. 4th St between Bowery and Lafayette. Look for us at the long table in the back.
Greetings CopyNighters,
I write to you from Brazil, where I have been attending the iCommons 2006 Summit. It was a great experience - learning what other people around the world are doing with Creative Commons licenses is incredibly inspiring. Anyway, my flight doesn't get back until Wednesday morning at 6am, so that means I'm going to have to miss CopyNight this month. But don't dispair!
Abhay Kumar, a fellow free culture activist will be heading it this week -- just look for him at the middle table in the back of Swift's at 8pm on Tuesday. Swift's is on E. 4th Street between Bowery and Lafayette.
See you next month,
CopyNighters,
As you've probably already realized, tomorrow is the last Tuesday of the month and that means its CopyNight.org time! We'll be meeting at our usual spot, Swift's on E. 4th St between Lafayette and Bowery at 8pm. There's a long table in the back that is usually pretty empty, so look for us there.
Greetings CopyNighters,
You know the drill. CopyNight NYC is tomorrow night:
8pm at Swift's on East 4th Street between Lafayette and Bowery. We'll probably be at the back sitting at the long table in the middle.
There will be beer. There will be food. And there will be talk of copyright and the future. Free Culture @ NYU will be in attendence and ready to talk shop. See you then!
CopyNighters,
I hope you're enjoying your respective New Years. As you've probably already read on the general CopyNight list, there is plenty to talk about right now in the world of copyright. Whether its the push to erase the idea of fair-use from collective consciousness, or future attempts at reanimating the Broadcast Flag, 2006 promises to be chock-full-of-nuts (as in DRM-is-nuts).
So why don't you join us to discuss it over a beer for our first meeting of the year? Myself and other members from Free Culture @ NYU will be attending, so we'd love it if you could make it. We'll be at Swift's on 4th St. between Bowery and Lafayette at 8pm. Along with their great beer list, Swift's serves some really tasty food (they even have french fries now!) so you can grab a bite too.
See you there!
CopyNighters,
Greetings again. I'm writing to announce, albeit a bit belatedly, that we are planning to have a CopyNight tonight, the 29th at 7:30pm. We'll be at Swift's which is a bar on East 4th Street between Lafayette and Bowery. They have nice live Irish Music that starts at 10pm, so you can stick around after the copy-talk if you'd like to hear that.
Cheers,
Greetings CopyNighters,
Fred Benenson here, co-founder of Free Culture @ NYU and one of the current CopyNight New York chairs. We're not going to have CopyNight tonight the 22nd, but we will have it next week on the 29th at 7pm. Our location is El Rey Del Sol, 232 W 14th St (between 7th Ave and 8th Ave). Check http://maps.google.com/maps?q=232+W+14th+St+New+York+New+York&num=1&spn=0.02%2C0.04 for a map. I'll post something next week about the topics, but here are two events that you might want to check out in the mean time:
1) Richard M Stallman (also know as RMS) will be giving a lecture at Cooper Union on the 29th as well. The lecture will be from 12-2 in the Great Hall. Cooper Union is located at 7th St. and 3rd Ave.
2) Free Culture @ NYU will be holding another DRM demonstration, this time at Tower Records on East 4th Street and Broadway. Check out http://www.freeculturenyu.org/2005/11/22/our-next-drm-demonstration/#comments for more information and links to the flyers that we'll be distributing.
Cheers,
