9 July Get-Together

Hello once again, Tokyo CopyNighters!

July has been a difficult month for some of us (me included), so this month's get together will be more informal than usual.

If you're up for some good conversation and munchies, join us at the Pink Cow in Shibuya this Sunday, July 9, at 6:30 PM. We're having the meeting concurrently with an artists' gathering called "Artsy Bugs" so you can sample their artwork as well. The Cow has great food and drinks available for purchase at the bar as well, so come hungry and thirsty!

CopyNight Tokyo Message

Greetings Tokyo CopyNighters,

Just a note to remind you of the May CopyNight get-together. A few changes in store for this month: a different location, and a new day of the week!

We'll be meeting 30 May (that's a Tuesday) in Shibuya at The Pink Cow (see www.thepinkcow.com for more information on the venue). Click here for a map and directions.

This month's highlights (we'll discuss these and more!)
* China's President Hu Jintao's dinner at Bill Gates' House.
* Canadian musicians revolt against CRIA (the Canadian "RIAA") and form their own association, the CMCC.
* MPAA-sponsored study claims the movie industry lost over $6B to piracy in 2005.
* Proposed changes in U.S. copyright and trademark law.

Feel free to spread the word and invite anyone who may be interested. We're looking for artists, authors, engineers, filmmakers, academics, lawyers, librarians, journalists, programmers, and many others -- basically, anyone who believes that promoting the sharing of knowledge and culture among the people of the world is a good thing.

Second Tokyo CopyNight Meeting!

Our first meeting, in March, was small but interesting. We're hoping to have a few more attendees this time. When is it? Friday, 28 April near Kunitachi station on the Chuo line. The meeting place is about 3 minutes' walk from the station. It is called "No Borders." They have Guinness and Ebisu on tap, and authentic Thai munchies from the restaurant below if you're hungry. We'll meet from around 7 PM, and see how long we go!
